Not Bang Tidy but effective- Bulczynski wins EFK Midlands title

It wasn’t pretty but Lincoln KBA’s Polish export Piotr ‘Bang Tidy’ Bulczynski claimed the EFK Midlands Area title with a 4th round stoppage win over Khaleel Afzal at the Ramada Hotel in Birmingham on 13 May 2012.

Bulczynski had to dig deep to take the belt back to Lincoln.  He was confident as always, throwing wild, unorthodox punches from all angles, missing with many, but when connecting they were causing damage, leaving Afzal with a bloody nose at the end of the first round.

Bulczynski maintained his red-hot pace in the second round, but was starting to show signs of tiredness when he came back to the corner.

He was told by cornermen, Shawn,  Aaron and Oz to relax and breath, compose himself and stick to basic 1-2 roundhouse combinations, responding by saying “yes I understand, I will do this.”

Bulczynski opened the 3rd round with two spinning hook kicks to the head, missing with the first, but connecting with the second (nice to look at but not what the corner had ordered), however, his opponent was tiring at a faster rate, enabling the Lincoln man to start to pic his shots more, particularly the straight right hand.

After the 3rd round Piotr was given a very inspirational and his words, emotional speech by coach Shawn Burton.  “He said this is what you have trained for, what you have always wanted – the chance to win a belt, to make my family proud,” said Bulczynski.  “I knew I had to win for my Lincoln KBA family.”

Bulczynski, 24, went out for the 4th round like a man with real intent, forcing a game Afzal onto the ropes and unloading with a stinging attack, forcing referee Billy Saul to issue a standing 8 count to Afzal, a count he was unable to beat meaning Lincoln KBA had another champion in the camp.

Piotr said after the bout, “I think I can clean up this division. I know my style isn’t great, but I’ve still got time to learn, improve and the determination to dig deep and have a good scrap when I have to.”
