Master Classes at the Lincoln Fight Factory

Lockdown MMA at the Lincoln Fight Factory are again pushing the evolution of Mixed Martial Arts in Lincoln with the start of the new ‘Master Class series’.  Saturday 10th March saw the first of the fortnightly ‘No-Gi BJJ for MMA’ with purple belt, professional MMA fighter Dan Gibbon from the Gorilla Fight Team at Gainsborough.  The packed class of over 20 students produced great feedback and is now a fixed feature on the calendar.

This marks the start of an exciting new ‘Master class Series’ once a month on top of the Saturday classes, which will see a different expert from a wide range of martial arts taking over the regular Thursday evening MMA class, and given free rein to introduce one specific technique exclusive to his or her style, which they believe would have an impact in the cage. Examples; professionally being Machida’s Karate front kick and Anderson Silva’s effective use of Thai knees and various Wing Chun techniques.

These are not expensive money making 3 hour seminars but instead short, effective 45 minute additions to our normal classes at no extra cost at all.  Classes already booked in include:

  • Black belt and former Kickboxer Lee Coult’s pressure point fighting.
  • Pro MMA star James Batemans wrestling techniques for the cage.
  • Judo coach Ken Andrews break falls and trips.

Future classes will include several former professional boxers teaching the intricacies of the jab and combination punching, Wing Chun hand fighting and trapping and Aikido No-Gi throws.  Classes are not taken in isolation but are there to embrace the whole ‘mixed martial arts’ ethos which can easily be forgotten amongst eager wannabe fighters.Coaches Andy Parr and Glen Wright have always had this progression in mind since starting the club, with the hope that it not only gives their fighters and students the edge over other competitors but also embraces the idea that there is an unlimited amount of useful technique out there in the various versions of the fighting arts, which can be overlooked in favour of the admittedly vital ‘bread and butter’ training and also due to the abundance of overly ‘showy’ and ineffective stuff that can put students off some of the older traditional formats.”This is after all a ‘mix of martial arts’ and we want to pick and choose from the widest range possible not just the obvious ones” added Andy.
