One week until Takeover Promotions – Out for Glory

We are pleased to announce that Takeover Promotions are bringing former Middleweight World Champion Steve Collins and a night of world class K1 kickboxing to Lincoln on 22 September 2018 – this is an event you do not want to miss in what is one of Lincoln’s biggest ever fight night event at the Lincoln Fight Factory.

Former Feud Promotions Promoter Shawn Burton has seen the success of promoting over the last 10 years but each event he has tried to make major improvements and believed a whole rebrand was needed from Feud to take kickboxing events to the next level.  Previous fight nights have always seen some of the very best match making in the UK that made it one of the longest running, most established events on the circuit, but that is where it stopped – a good night of fights and cheap beer.

The Takeover Promotions event will have that and much, much more.  The plan is to make it an evenings entertainment that everybody wants to attend, a must do date in the diary that will showcase the very best K1 rules fights in the country combined with  full nights entertainment to go with it in the form of legendary guest speakers, dancers, light shows and much more.

Who is Steve Collins?

Former WBO middleweight and super-middleweight champion, Steve Collins is a legendary Irish boxer. Not fulfilling his potential until into his thirties, Collins has competed against some of the best boxers ever to fight. A wonderful boxing speaker, Steve mixes anecdotal tales of his times in the ring with invaluable advice learnt from a career in a brutally competitive environment.

Winning 26 amateur titles before turning professional in Massachusetts in October 1986, Collins got his debut fight against Julio Mercado, knocking him out in the third round. Steve’s rise to fame and peak performance is a topic discussed often by Steve as a boxing speaker, discussing the intricacies of the process along the way.

Spending six years in Boston, Collins gained the Irish middleweight title and fought many close bouts before moving back to Belfast under the management of Barney Eastwood. Trained by Freddie King, Collins won the WBO middleweight title in 1994 after defeating Chris Pyatt. Relinquishing his title the following year in order to move up to super middleweight, Collins defeated the revered long reigning champion Chris Eubank to win the WBO title. Consistent performance is an attribute relatable to both business and social environments alike, establishing Steve as a pre-eminent sports speaker on the after dinner speaker circuit.

Going on to defend his title on multiple occasions, including two fights against Nigel Benn. During the preparation of his latest title challenge bout, against a young Joe Calzaghe, Nigel became injured and retired in 1997 after a long journey in order to secure a fight against longstanding rival Roy Jones Jr. Despite an attempt to come out of retirement to fight his rival in 1999, Steve was unable to get his wish. Now an after dinner speaker , Steve touches on a multitude of topics, ranging from maximising success to drive and determination.

On to the show:

The event will also feature some of the UKs very best fighters in action with a host of your favourite Lincoln fighters lacing up their gloves to put on a show for our loyal fight fans and to show them all what they have been working towards over the last 16 weeks during training camp.

We have some brilliant title defences on the night with none more eagerly anticipated than Phil Robbins ISKA Midland K1 title defence against Lincoln foe Dom Barnard from Function First, trained by Matt Frost.  This is a rematch from our March event that saw Dom give Phil all kinds of problems in the opening rounds, before Phil eventually ended the bout with a rib-bending body shot.  Dom has requested the rematch and the first fight proved he certainly deserves another crack, but Phil has been on fire since March, picking up the WRSA Semi-Pro English title earlier this month.

Keegan Roberts makes the first defence of his ISKA World K1 title against the dangerous multiple Spanish and World champion Miguel Heredia, trained by Francisco Gamiz in Seville.  Keegan has been in great form, unbeaten in 3 years, picking up and successfully defending English, British and European titles and winning his first World title in March,  He looks to have a very tough challenge ahead his him when he fights Miguel, but preparation couldn’t have gone any better and we look forward to another crowd pleasing performance from the Lincoln star.

Lukas Nanartavicius makes the first defence of his -35kg European K1 title that he won in March against the very tough Jake Coffey from Ireland with a 5th round stoppage in what was one of the junior fights of the year.  Lukas has raked up a 9-0 fight night record in K1, but his opponent Callum Hennessy from the legendary Combat Academy in Barnsley holds a win over Lukas at the ICO British Championships last year and is a rematch that Lukas wanted immediately, thankfully due to good working relationships with Callum’s coach Mick Crossland the fight was made the very next day and it looks set to be a cracker.

Another Lincoln fighter looking to gain revenge from a loss at the ICO British Championships is Midland champion Kraig Green when he meets Otis Waghorn from the formidable Assassins Gym, coached by Lewis Pears.  Everybody knows the the Assassins fighters are well schooled with a solid base, but Otis is something special, coming from a Taekwondo backgroud, he has the ability to do the unexpected with his kicks, but we have developed a game plan for Kraig and hope he works on the night when the pair meet for the ISKA English K1 title at -60kg.

A real treat for fight fans see’s a fantastically matched ISKA British title bout between Assassin Gyms Alex Hook and Derby Martial Arts James Luscombe.  A nice fight between Sussex and Derbyshire, featuring two very experienced teenagers, who will be bringing very vocal crowds and the two knock out artists will both look to earn another early stoppage and prove they deserve to be the UK number 1 at their weight.

The poster boy of our Beginners Kickboxing Course’s Lewis Etoria puts his unbeaten record on the line when he challenges for his first title against the more experienced Darryl Jones from the Trojan Gym in Walsall.  Lewis has a 4-0 record but this is a massive step up in class for him, but he knows this and has really put in the work in the gym and in his personal time to as he knows this may be the only shot at the ISKA Midland title that he may get.

A future star of the gym, Ruslan Gerasimovic will be looking to continue his unbeaten run when he challenges for the ISKA English title against Kristobal Horvath from the YKMA gym in Sheffield.  These two young lads were involved in a thriller of a fight earlier this year in Peterborough with Ruslan taking the win on points, but a rematch had to be made and what better show for these two young stars to feature on.

The final title fight featuring a Lincoln Fight Factory fighter see’s another rematch between DJ Tollerton and Taylor Sellars for the Takeover Promotions Boxing title at -63.5kg.  Taylor caused a huge shock earlier this month by beating DJ on the Peaky Blinders Fight Night over 5 rounds in a close fight, again this is a rematch this had to be made on a big show and the teams spoke about the Takeover event staging it – we are extremely delighted to have this fight on the card.

The packed card will also see a junior ISKA English title bout between Stevie Weldrake and Oliver Clarke, rematches between Jordan Stokes vs Lee Hellawell, a mouth-watering boxing bout between TKO Elites unbeaten Safeerullah Safie and the very tough Stiven Tomashevic from the Musashi Gym in Peterborough, as well as other Lincoln fighters including bouts between Matt Kennedy and Musashi Martial Arts Alexandr Krasnov , Ricky Ward and YKMA’s Jaro Polhos. Michal Grzegorczyk and DMA’s Max Alcock, and Function First’s Piotr Panzak and DMA’s Mike McDevitt.

Doors for the for the VIP tickets at 4:30pm when you will have chance to have you photo with Steve Collins before our staff your table ready for the Q&A with Steve Collins at 5:00pm – we still have 3 tickets left so don’t delay if you want one – they are priced at £650 for a table of 10, but can be bought singular.

Doors open at 6:00pm for standard tickets when you will be taken to a private bar and allowed into the arena ready for the first bout set for 6:30pm and are priced at £30.
