Garcia loses out in title thriller

Lincoln KBA’s Spanish import, Sergio Garcia was unable to overcome current Golden Belt British Champion Jamie McLellend in Scotland to lift the title in Motherwell, Scotland last weekend.

Despite all his efforts he was unable to pin down the elusive McLellend and land the heavy shots he loves to throw.  After an even first round, Garcia came to life in the second landing some heavy shots, but to his credit the young Scot did not seem fazed by Garcia’s power and replied with sharp hand and feet combinations, with the lead leg roundhouse causing damage.

The Scot went on to take rounds 3 and 4 using good ringcraft and sharp counter punching, often leaving Garcia swinging at thin air.

It was all to play for in round 5 and Sergio went out to work looking to force the pressure in hope to take the title. unfortunately in doing so he left himself open to a solid right hand that sent him crashing to the canvas.  Beating the count he was back on his feet, but Mclellend went storming in throwing a wide array of punches, leaving coach Shawn Burton no other option but to throw in the towel.

Sergio has vowed to come back stronger and has thanked everybody at the gym for their continued support and would like to congratulate Jamie on keeping his title – who knows this could make a great rematch!
