Aaron wins in Newark
Lincoln KBA’s Aaron Robinson continued his winning run last night at Kelham Hall in Newark with a solid points win against hardman Martin Sweeney from Kokoro Gym, Blackburn.
Backed by a large crowd of travelling support from the Lincoln Fight Factory family, Aaron, who was the underdog going into this fight, put in a punch perfect performance, punishing a very game Sweeney with stinging body shots and great ringcraft.
Weighing in the day before at 68.4kg for a 70kg bout, Aaron said he was in the best shape ever and made weight easily which had been a huge stumbling block in previous years and this showed in the ring.
It wasn’t all one way traffic for Aaron, he had to box very clever, knowing that Sweeney was very heavy handed and very dangerous throughout the 6 rounds.
After the 6 rounds Aaron was awarded the decision which sets him up nicely for his WKA European title fight in Birmingham against Simon Akufo on 8 June 2013.
Also on the card, the Polish Express Wiktor Gornicki faced local boy, current European Champion Alfie Price. Wiktor was very worried about this fight in the build up as Price is very, very classy. This was toe-to-toe war that would put the skills of many adult fights to shame, neither boy took a backward step, throwing nice punch and kick combinations.
Wiktor sustained a heavy nose bleed from a broken nose he sustained in his last fight 2 weeks ago, but when most 9 year olds would quit, he just wiped it on his t-shirt and got back to business.
Although he did not take the decision, Wiktor proved that he belonged in the ring with the best junior fighters in the country and made some new fans from the French team that we shared a dressing room with.
Well done boys and thanks to everybody that came to support, it is much appreciated.
