John Chapman wins by TKO in Seaham

Last night the Lincoln Fight Factory team were back on the road when they travelled to the North East with John Chapman to box in Seaham and left a very happy team.

The show promoted by former world champion Michae ‘Robbie’ Johnson under his FightClub brand at The Knack in Seaham – a small Working Mens Club packed with a fantastic, respectful crowed who got to watch an action packed night of top class boxing and kickboxing action.

John was the only fighter representing the gym and had extremely hard for this fight, showing great dedication and looking in fantastic shape at 63kg.  John is without doubt the fittest fighter on the current fight team and this was obvious in his performance.

Facing John was Sunderland man Lee Wilkinson representing the legendary Spartan Fighting Arts gym.  For the last 20 years Spartans has been one of the major forces in combat sports for the UK, so we know we would be facing a well schooled, strong and dangerous opponent.  Lee was the much taller fighter, the team knew John would comfortably manage the 3×2 minute rounds at a very fast pace, so his instructions were clear, close the gap down and stay busy on the inside, landing hurtful shots.

As the first bell sounded John went straight to work, looking to slip inside Wilkinson’s jab and work some solid right hands to the head and body.  A few early shots from a confident Wilkinson didn’t phase John at all as he stuck to his game plan and landed several solid right hands to the head and body of his opponent which was enough to win the first round.

In the break between rounds, coach Shawn Burton instructed John to work some feints to set up his power shots, forcing Wilkinson to be on the back foot, which in the first round appeared to be his least favorite position – the team knew that if John took the temp up a few notches a stoppage would be imminent.

Like with anything we have ever told John, he followed the instructions to the word and landed combination after combination to a tiring, slowing defeated Wilkinson who just couldn’t cope with work rate of the Lincoln man.

With about 30 seconds of the second round remaining, the Spartan corner made the correct decision to throw in the towel and save a very game fighter from further punishment, leaving John to take his record to 2-0.

Thanks to Robbie and all his team for a great night, the team can’t wait to travel over again with a bigger team and thanks to the guys from the gym who gave up their Saturday to come and support, it really does make a difference in the ring.

Well done John on another great performance, your handwork and dedication really his paying dividends in the ring.

John will be straight back into training camp as he looks to take is record to 3-0 when he makes a massive step up in class against Croyden Boxing Academy’s Mzingaye Ngwenya on the next Takeover Promotions event on 21 September at the Lincoln Fight Factory.
