ASBO Brain Storm

What is ASBO?? Our Youths Discuss!

This week with our 15–16 year old group on the Back On Track – Activities for Youths at Risk Project (funded by the Million Hours Grant), we explored an important topic — what is anti-social behaviour, and why does it happen?

We started with a group brainstorm, giving everyone the chance to share what they personally consider to be anti-social behaviour. The group highlighted things like:

  • Disrespect towards others
  • Vandalism
  • Bullying
  • Aggressive behaviour
  • Substance misuse
  • Disruptive actions in the community

From there, we took it a step further and asked why these behaviours happen.

💬 That’s when the session really opened up.

The group spoke honestly about:

  • Peer pressure and trying to fit in
  • Boredom and lack of things to do
  • Anger, frustration, and not knowing how to manage it
  • Challenges at home or in school
  • Wanting attention or recognition
  • Feeling misunderstood or judged

Several young people connected these points to their own personal experiences, leading to open, respectful discussions where everyone had the chance to be heard.

These moments are what the project is all about — not just identifying behaviours, but understanding the reasons behind them and helping young people reflect, grow and make positive choices.
