Aaron Robinson wins in Grantham
Lincoln Fight Factory’s Aaron Robinson got back to winning ways in a boxing bout on Saturday in Grantham when he beat former Professional Boxer Johnathan Whiteman in 1 round at the Arena UK in Allington.
Aaron controlled the fight from the first bell with the Mansfield man unable to answer anything the slick Aaron was throwing. Recent fights have seen Aaron slow off the blocks, but this was not the case on Saturday as he landed shots at will, punishing Whiteman (who had a 5-9-2 pro record) with body shots.
Aaron turned his opponent countless times and used his reach advantage to great effect with his jab. After the first round Whiteman indicated to his corner that he could not continue, citing a hand injury as the problem.
(Incidentally, Whiteman took World Champions Rendal Munroe and Kell Brook into the second round, making Aaron’s performance even sweeter)
Also on the card was Nicky Matchett making her debut for the Lincoln Fight Factory gym. She faced home town girl Mimi Bunn over 3 rounds. A slow start by Matchett saw her take several heavy punches that she would usually avoid. After words of advice from the corner she came out like a different fighter, moving well around the ring and landing her own blows to Bunn.
After a minute of the second round she allowed Bunn back into the fight, this was the pattern for round 3 as well with both girls going blow for blow. Many at ringside felt Nicky had done enough to take the win, her corner fought a draw would have been fair, but Bunn took the win and we have no complaints.
A rematch would be great.
Well done guys from all at the Lincoln Fight Factory.
