Lincoln KBA Fight Team at Casino Rooms – 26/02/12
It was a mixed fortunes at the Casino Rooms in Rochester, Kent this weekend for the ever improving Lincoln KBA fight team. The 3 man team due to appear on the show – Shawn Burton, Tom Scutt and Dan Travis had all put in weeks of hard work since starting their intensive training camps on the 2 Januuary 2012 in order to be in the best shape possible for their fights.
Shawn was challenging for the IKF Pro Light Welterweight title at 64.5kg against rival Steven Pocket Rocket Cook from Pegasus Gym in Aylesbury. These two did not hide their dislike for each other in the build up to their fight, making it one of the most anticipated fights in recent years.
Shawn scaled in at a low 63.0kg and looked in great shape, Cook came in on the limit of 64.5kg. The fight started as expected, both sussing each other out for the first part of the scheduled 10 round contest. The fight opened up in the second round with both fighters starting to find their rhythm. The third was pretty much the same until a clash of heads resulted in Shawn sustaining concussion and having to retire from the fight. Not the way anybody, including the 30 travelling KBA fans making a 4 hour trip, wanted to fight to end. We wish Shawn a speedy recovery. Reports are he is much better but still suffering headaches, a week off training should hopefully sort things out. A rematch is now in negotiations, with 8 September the likely date.
Also on the night Tom Scutt won in style with a 3 round dismantlement of tough Brighton fighter James Caldercourt representing KICKS Gym. Tom put in a vintage performance using his straight left to maximum effect, giving a game Caldercourt 4 standing counts during the 3 round contest. Tom now takes his record to 4 wins from 4 fights.
Tom’s next outing is against another unbeaten fighter, Gurinder Mandir (4-0) on the next Kickboxing Classics Promotion at Yarborough Leisure Centre on 24 March 2012.
Dan Travis continued his winning run of form also, scoring his 2nd stoppage in 2 weeks, this time the victim was Leon Sneddon representing the home gym, TKO Academy. The fight started at a ferocious pace with both fighters landing heavy shots. Then out of nowhere Dan delivered a heavy left hook and and rear leg roundhouse to the head of Sneddon and after just 1:48 of round one, Dan was on his knees with his arms in the air much to the delight of the travelling support and the corner team of Aaron Robinson, Adam Butler, Jordan McLoughin and Oz.
All in all it was a good night for the team and once again shows that we are a serious force in the kickboxing game.
Thanks
Lincoln Fight Factory Team
